Bishop, N. (2007). Spiders.
New York: Scholastic.
This nonfiction book discusses the wonderful world of
spiders with absolutely fascinating pictures and great attention to detail. Bishop
discusses the basic facts about spiders (body parts, legs, eyes, web building)
and goes into detail with specific species of spiders. Each page features a
close up picture of a different type of spider along with some very specific spider
facts. There is also smaller description on each page naming the species of
spider pictured along with a small interesting piece of information.
This arachnid book will fascinate the K- 5 age group. The
younger set will be captivated by the photos while older readers will be able
to use the text for research based projects. Even though the text is full of
facts, it is written interestingly enough to keep readers turning the page. One
of the most fascinating aspects of the book was the afterward written by Bishop
to explain to what length he goes to capturing just the right picture of the
spiders featured in his book.
