This collection of fairytale poems is very unique because they are reversible poems. They work as poems read up and down but with different meanings when read each way, only allowing for altering punctuation. For example: (from the jacket cover)
Isn’t this a fairy tale?/
A fairy tale this isn’t..
The different fairy tales featured are Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and along with several others.
Each set of poems has two entirely different points of view (for example Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf) and two distinctive illustrations that express both sides of the poem while blending to make one painting. This book of poetry would be a great read aloud (or independent reading) for second grade and above. It would also be a great fit for middle school students who are studying poetry due to its distinctive style to inspire them to write their own reverse poem.
