New to the Library
Ali’s Story: A Real-Life Account of His Journey from
Afghanistan
Glynne, A. & Maldonado, S. (2018). Ali’s story: a real-life account of his journey from Afghanistan. North
Mankato, Minnesota: Picture Window Books, an imprint of Capstone.
Ali’s Story is a
heartbreaking tale of how it feels to be a refugee from a young child’s point
of view. The picture book takes the reader through the decision to leave the
home country, the flight to a new land and the adjustment that is needed while
learning English and making friends. In this story, Ali migrates with his
grandmother while his parents are stranded in Afghanistan. The pictures portray
just how dark and bleak this time is for this young boy. This book (and the
others in the series) would be perfect for teaching empathy along with showing
students how other children their age might be living in different countries
and circumstances.
This book is part of a new series in the library. Titles
